February 2010: Shocked to learn that residents of the City of Dallas' The Bridge Homeless Center play chess with scraps of paper for pieces missing from their few worn sets, the Club donates chess sets and a rule book to Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance in the spirit of good neighbors.

January 2010: The Club hosts its first USCF-rated scholastic chess tournament at which 56 school age inner-city chess players compete. Thirty-two players join the USCF for the first time and earn their first official national rating; eight players renew their memberships.

November 2009: The Club surpasses UT-Dallas in the US Chess Federation's 2009 Membership Appreci-ation Program to become the nation's leading college affiliate for recruiting adult members for the USCF this year, earning 27 membership points to date.

October 2009: Club elects 2009-2010 officers.

August 2009: The Club becomes a scholastic club member of the Texas Chess Association.

August 2009: Our Club advisor, Darrell Cook, is inducted as the newest member on the US Chess Federation's College Chess Committee, making El Centro College only the second community college in the nation that is represented on the official policy-making body for all of college chess.

July 2009: The new El Centro College Chess Player Scholarship is created from private donations to provide talented Dallas-area chess players the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education in any field or major while competing at the national collegiate level.

April 2009: The Club wins El Centro College's Outstanding New Student Organization for 2009.

October 2008: The Club becomes College Affiliate member of the U.S. Chess Federation.

October 2008: Our Club Constitution is approved and the Club is officially designated an El Centro College student organization, approved by the campus Director of Student Programs & Resources.

January 2008: The Club begins meeting informally as a way for lovers of chess in the El Centro Community to learn, play, and compete in the Royal Game.

The El Centro Chess Club is an official student organization of El Centro College located at the historic West End of downtown Dallas, Texas. Since beginning in the Spring 2008 semester, the Club already has several active players who meet at least weekly to find and challenge worthy opponents in the Royal Game.
